Allen "Al" Buhler

Allen “Al” John Buhler, age 81, of Janesville, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 15, 2020, at his home with family by his side.

Allen Buhler was born on September 29, 1938 in Oronoco Township, Olmstead County, to John and Marie (Heimberg) Buhler. He attended country school and graduated from Pine Island High School with the class of 1956. Following his education, he joined the United States Navy on August 23, 1956, sailing around the world until being honorably discharged on September 4, 1959. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his education at the University of Minnesota ~ St. Paul Campus, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. His career began as a high school science teacher in Walnut Grove for five years before taking a job as a sales representative for Ciba-Geigy. In 1970 he accepted a district manager position for Ciba-Geigy and moved his family to Morton, IL. In 1973, he returned to Minnesota and began working in Albert Lea as a sales representative for Helena until 1976 when he became one-third owner of Brayton Chemicals in Janesville, which later became a part of Wilbur – Ellis and Wil Farm, retiring from the business in 2000. On September 7, 1985, Allen was united in marriage to Darlene Cords at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Allen enjoyed gardening, tending to his yard, golfing, fishing, and having coffee or drinks with his friends. He was big Minnesota Viking and Minnesota Twin fan. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, the Janesville Jaycees and Janesville American Legion. Allen especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his unique sense of humor and talent of writing poems for various occasions.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Darlene of Janesville; children: Scott (Tricia) Buhler of Crookston, Brian (LeAnn) Buhler of Wasilla, Alaska, Jodi Davis of North Mankato, Scott Cummins of Pryor, Oklahoma, Randy “Bucky” (Tammy) Cummins of Janesville and Wendy (Darwin) Erickson of Waseca; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings: Ernie (Nancy) Buhler of Woodbury, Irene Blohm of Rochester, Evie (Dick) Berge of Iron River, WI, Floyd Buhler of Colorado Springs, CO, Willie (Jean) Buhler of Edina, Louise (Orv) Wobig or Bella Vista, AR, Hellie Gritzner or Elkader, IA, Barb Buhler-Jennings of Harrah, OK; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Neil Blohm and Charlie Gritzner; sister-in-law, Grace Buhler.

Private family celebration of life will be held on a later date.
