WINTER STORM POSTPONEMENT Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
GORDON “GORDY” GEARHARDT ZABEL, age 78 of Vernon Center, died on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Mankato. Born in Mankato, Minnesota on August 1, 1932, Gordy was the son of Herbert and Frieda (Besser) Zabel. He attended school in Wells, Minnesota. For most of his life, Gordy worked in the grocery business. For several years he operated his own store, Gordy’s Grocery, in Waldorf. Later in his life, he worked as a police officer in Minnesota Lake. Gordy enjoyed his dogs and other pets, doing landscaping, and mowing the lawn. He had been a member of the Moose Lodge in Mankato for many years. Gordy is survived by his partner, Johnny Day of Vernon Center; one sister, Alverna (Roger) Bebler of Mankato; four brothers, Don (Edie) Zabel of Wells, Harold Zabel of Waseca, Dewey (Kathy) Zabel of Waldorf, and Roger (Linda) Zabel of Waseca; one sister-in-law, Margaret Zabel of Blue Earth; one brother-in-law, Mark Spalding of Cleveland, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marion Zabel and Shirley Spalding; one brother, Orville Zabel; twin brothers in infancy; and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Beverly, and Sherry Zabel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, with Rev. Steven Bohling officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. |
