Barbara (Wetzstein) Wicks

BARBARA JOY (WETZSTEIN) WICKS, age 59 of Lynnwood, WA died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, WA.

 

Born in Aurora, Illinois on November 20, 1948, she was the daughter of Rev. Dr. Lester and Ermily (Kaiser) Wetzstein.  Barbara graduated from Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, WA in 1966 and went on to study Dental Hygiene, graduating from Shoreline College in Shoreline, WA.  While in school, Barbara enjoyed playing flute in the marching band as well as singing with a gospel ensemble.  She married John Wicks on July 26, 1980 at Maple Leaf Evangelical Church in Seattle, Washington.  Barbara spent her career working as a dental hygienist including a service trip to Honduras.  She enjoyed gardening, hosting a home bible study group, and maintained a lifelong interest of keeping in touch with friends and family.  She was a longstanding member of the Alderwood Manor Community Church in Washington and Washington State Dental Hygiene Association.

 

She is survived by her husband, John Wicks of Lynnwood, WA; mother, Ermily Wetzstein of Waseca; sister, Diane (Stanley) Yates of Kauai, HI; brother, David Wetzstein of Waseca; two nieces, Deb (Jeff) Workman of High Point, NC and Lori (Kraig) Kominski of Auburn, WA; one nephew, Ray Maier; five great nieces and nephews; aunt, Helen Knutson of Waseca; and cousins, Joan (Howard) Nordeen of Plymouth, Dean Kaiser of Wells, and Gary (Sally) Kaiser of West Chicago, IL.  She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Dr. Lester Wetzstein; paternal grandparents, Alfred and Emma Wetzstein; maternal grandparents, Henry and Malwe Kaiser; uncles, Leroy Wetzstein, Donald Kaiser and Waldemer (Carmie) Kaiser; and aunts, Ethel Kaiser and Dorothy Kaiser.

 

Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 4-7 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca.  Burial will be at Dunbar Memorial Cemetery in Faribault County. 

 

Memorials are preferred to the Virginia Mason Foundation, for ALS research in memory of Barbara.
