Evelyn M. "Evie" Wetzel

EVELYN MAE “EVIE” WETZEL, age 81 of Waseca, died on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Waseca Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Waseca County on April 25, 1930, Evelyn was the daughter of Sylvester and Florence (Bird) Powell.  As a young woman she attended school in Waseca.  She was married to Warren Wetzel on March 4, 1966 in Brookings, South Dakota.  Evie worked for Brown Printing in Waseca for five years, then E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca for 31 years, and finally at Calamp in Waseca.  Because she so greatly enjoyed her friends and co-workers, she continued to work part-time until March of this year.  She enjoyed playing bingo, going shopping, watching “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars”, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Evie was a past member of the Waseca VFW Auxiliary and the Waseca Eagle’s Auxiliary, and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.

Evie is survived by five children, Dennis Broughton of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Julie (Terry) Ziemke of Waseca, Pam (Butch) Bartelt of Waseca, Jan (Ahmed) Belal of Waseca, and Randy (Cyndi) Wetzel of New Richland; ten grandchildren; Robyn (Craig) Evans of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Shannon (Ben) Cliff of Waseca, Missy (Dustin) Roeker of Waseca, Matt Bartelt of Waseca, Patty (Greg) Albers of Mankato, Tim Bartelt and his girlfriend Emily Stark of St. Peter, Sara Abukaff of Morristown, Trevor (Lisa) Lambkins of Coweta, OK, Alyssa (Nic) DeMers of Oakdale, MN, and Jennifer (Dave) Bisbee of Shakopee; seventeen great-grandchildren, Colton and Chase Evans, Tristen and Talen Cliff, Taylor Ziemke, Mackenzie Jorgenson, Makena and Keaton Roeker, Hannah and Emily Albers, Jonathan Weller, Aiden Abukaff, Cade Srp, Zoe and Sophia Lambkins, Mekhi DeMers, and Jayden Bisbee; and two siblings, Margaret (Mike) McNeil of Waseca, and Ray Powell of Waseca.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Gene Powell, Harlan Powell, Arthur Powell; one sister, Helen James; one grandson, Jason Wetzel; and one great-granddaughter, Amyah Mae Lambkins.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Roger Haug officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
