LESTER P. STRAND, age 92 of Waseca died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the New Richland Care Center.
Born in Waseca County, Minnesota on July 1, 1915, he was the son of Edward and Emma (Johnson) Strand. He attended school in New Richland and following his schooling worked as a painter. He joined the CCC in 1933 and had worked in northern Minnesota. Lester married Lydia Rietfort on October 18, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in England, France, Italy and had been wounded in Germany. After his discharge and recovery from the war, Lester went into the gas business owning Pure Oil Station and also doing bulk delivery. He enjoyed traveling, wood working and cribbage. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion of Waseca.
He is survived by one daughter, Jean (Robert) Miller of Waseca, one son-in-law, Richard Jacobson of Stewartville; three grandsons, Mike (Dawn) Miller of Plymouth, Steve Miller currently stationed in Iraq, and Jim (Jodi) Miller of Waseca; and four great grandchildren, Katelyn, Aaron, Joel, and McKenna Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-Judy Jacobson, and two sisters and brothers-in-law-Hazel and Don Borchard and Ruby and Bob Sorenson.
Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 4-7 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Vicki R. Hultine and Rev. Reyna Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. |
