Shirley Ann Stoering

SHIRLEY ANN STOERING, age 73 of Waterville, was called to her heavenly home following a courageous three year battle with cancer on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.

Born on September 15, 1936 in St. James, Minnesota she was the daughter of C. Albion & Myrtle (Toothker) Gilman.  Shirley attended District #20 Country School through the 8th grade, 9th grade at Lake Crystal, and 10th through 12th grade in Madelia, graduating as salutatorian in 1954.  She then attended Mankato Commercial College and worked as a toll clerk for the Mankato Citizens Telephone Co for three years.  Shirley married Reno Stoering on December 7, 1958 at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.  Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in Elysian Township, Le Sueur County.  She loved to spoil her grandchildren, care for her family, and keep everything around her neat and tidy.  Shirley was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church where she was confirmed and married.  She was also a member of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband, Reno of Waterville; three children, Timothy Stoering of Waterville, Colleen (Eric) Russell of Wyoming, MN, and Douglas (Debbra) Stoering of Westcliffe, CO; four grandchildren; and one brother, Dean (Janice) Gilman of North Mankato.  She is also survived by six nieces; twelve nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene Rohrer of Phoenix, AZ, and Lavonne Jameson of LeCenter.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elaine (Calvin) Jorgenson; an infant brother; and one brother-in-law, Glen Stoering.

Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 4-7 PM and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.
