MARLIN H. SPIES, age 78 of Waseca, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday, April 4, 2011.
Born in Waseca, Minnesota on November 28, 1932, Marlin was the son of Herbert and Ella (Kroll) Spies. He attended country school in Woodville Township. On June 21, 1959, Marlin married Joann M. Prail at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Over the years, Marlin worked as a mechanic for Allis Chalmers, did custom corn shelling, swathing, and other custom farm work, worked seasonally for Bird’s Eye Foods, sold Cargill Seed, and also sold Archer Oil for 25 years. It was only after suffering a stroke in 1992 that he retired. Marlin enjoyed farming, finding treasures at auctions, dancing, listening to old time music, and riding his Gator. He lived his entire life on the family farm in Woodville Township, and was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Joann of Waseca; three children, Doreen (Mike) Bathke, Darwin (Julie) Spies, and Dallas (Kimberly) Spies, all of Waseca; and one grandson, Kyle Bathke of Waseca. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Steve Bohling officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca.
