MARCELLA L. SMITH, age 94 of Waterville died on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.

Born on March 21, 1916 in Waterville, Minnesota she was the daughter of George and Nellie (Poehler) Matz.  She attended rural Cannonville School as well as Waterville High School.  Marcella married Ralph A. Smith on March 2, 1935 in Waseca.  Together they lived and farmed in rural Waterville for many years.  She had also worked at Mercury MN in Faribault for three years.  Marcella enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, driving tractor and truck, and fishing.  She was a member of The Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault.

Marcella is survived by her husband of 75 years, Ralph Smith of Waterville; one brother, Merlyn and Margie Matz of Waterville; and one sister-in-law, Vera Tucker of Arizona.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Marlyn Matz.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church on Monday.  Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.  Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville is handling arrangements.
