JAYNE L. SHORT, age 88 of Elysian died on Sunday, March 6, 2011 while in route to Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.
Born on September 15, 1922 in Mankato, Minnesota she was the daughter of Joseph and Esther (Geyer) Hardegger. Jayne graduated from Cleveland High School in 1940. Following her father’s death, Jayne helped with the family businesses, Hardegger’s Resort and Dance Hall. She married Bill Short in Cleveland in 1943. They lived in Aberdeen, MD for three years while Bill was serving in the U.S. Army. After they returned to Elysian, Jayne worked as a bookkeeper for the Elysian Auto Company. She also sold Avon for 25 years and worked as a clerk in the Elysian Post Office. Jayne enjoyed dancing, traveling and her life was centered around her family. Jayne will be greatly missed as she was very loving, kind, and giving to her family and friends. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian and the CCW.
Jayne is survived by her husband, Bill of Elysian; one daughter, Mary Jo (Russell) Hebl of Elysian; two sons, Tom (Juilee) Short of Elysian and John (Ronda) Short of Waconia; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, and 2 granddaughters.
Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 4-8 PM and continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
