CAROL ANN BARBKNECHT SHAPIRO, age 74 of Waseca, died on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Waseca Medical Center.

Born in Waseca on August 20, 1936, Carol was the daughter of John and Florence (Seewald) Barbknecht.  She attended Waseca Public Schools and graduated as co-valedictorian of her high school class in 1954.  Upon her graduation from the University of Minnesota she began working in California doing cancer research.  She later taught English as a second language in Mexico for a while before moving to Beaverton, Oregon where she remained for many years before moving back to Waseca.  Carol was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and caring for her cats.

Carol is survived by one brother, John Barbknecht and his wife Charlene of Centennial, Colorado.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Private services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the Waseca Public Library.
