Willard Seewald

Willard P. Seewald, age 84 of Waseca, died on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Waseca Medical Center.

Born in Waseca County on August 27, 1925, Willard was the son of Walter and Mabel (Mittelstaedt) Seewald.  He graduated from Waseca High School in 1943 and attended one year at Mankato State University.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946.  He then attended and graduated from the Electronic Radio-Television Institute of Minneapolis, Railroad Telegraphy Department in 1947.  He worked as a Telegrapher for the Atchinson Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in Riverside and Bakersfield, California.  Willard was married to Fern Schwarz on December 29, 1948 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Le Sueur.   Upon his return to Minnesota, Willard worked as a bookkeeper for Manke Service and the Firestone Store, both in Owatonna.  Later he was employed as rural mail carrier, retiring after 35 years of service.  Five years after beginning his retirement, he went to work for Wal-Mart, and continued his work there for ten years.  He was a life member of the Waseca American Legion, the Waseca VFW, the Waseca Military Order of the Cootie, and the Disabled American Veterans of Mankato.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting trap, archery, bowling, the Vikings, the Twins, playing cribbage, and working crosswords.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.

Willard is survived by his wife Fern of Waseca; three sons, Gregory (Rochelle) Seewald of Prior Lake, Scott (Patricia) Seewald of Burnsville, and James (Jenise) Seewald of Waseca; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Joyce (Richard) Buringa of Longmont, CO.

A memorial service with no reviewal will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 12:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Terry Quick officiating.  Family will greet guests two hours prior to the service at the church.  Interment with military honors will be at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
