MARTIN “MIKE” SCHLIE, age 80 of Janesville died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Janesville Nursing Home. 

Born on November 20, 1931 in Janesville, Minnesota he was the son of Carl and Bertha (Zarn) Schlie.  Mike attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Janesville.  Following his schooling, he was employed at Wigge’s Bakery and also the Commander Elevator in Janesville.  Mike was later employed with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 37 years working on the section crew.  He had also operated a scrap iron business and hauled sand, gravel and crushed rock.  Mike was a collector of various antiques and trains.

He is survived by siblings, Herman Schlie of Morristown, Bernard “Ben” Schlie and friend Katie of Janesville, Ervin Schlie of Janesville, Earl Schlie of Eagle Lake, Beatrice Johnson of Madison Lake, and Beata Kreft and husband Hartwin of Vesta; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister-Wilhelmina Fetchenhier; one brother-Gordon Schlie; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Schlie and Darlene Schlie.

Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Janesville Cemetery.
