Freida F. Schlaak

FREIDA SCHLAAK, age 87 of Faribault, died on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at District One Hospital in Faribault.

Born in Otisco Township, Waseca County on May 7, 1923, Freida was the daughter of Alfred and Elfreida (Pommerening) Kampen.  She attended country school near Otisco.  On May 19, 1944, she was married to Earl G. Schlaak at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Together they lived and farmed in Wilton Township.  In 1967 they moved to Blooming Grove Township where they continued to farm.  Freida worked at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca for 27 years, a position that she greatly loved.  She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards with friends, watching Minnesota Twins games, and being with her family.  Later in her life, she also enjoyed quilting.  She was a member of North Waseca Lutheran Church, where she was active with the women’s circle.

Freida is survived by four children, Wayne (Nancy) Schlaak of Sauk Centre, Donald (JoAnn) Schlaak of Waseca, Edward Schlaak of Morristown, and Kathleen (Craig) Schuster of Faribault; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Webb of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; and four brothers.

Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 4-8 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM at North Waseca Lutheran Church in Waseca County.  Interment will follow at Wilton Cemetery.
