MILDRED M. ROEMHILDT, age 85 of Waterville, formerly of Elysian, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center. Mildred was born in the town of her father’s namesake, Kurten, TX, on October 23, 1922, the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Lueck) Kurten. She attended Stephen Austin elementary and high school in Bryan, Texas, before marrying Clarence C. Roemhildt on October 14, 1945. She was an inspector with the Western Cartridge Company during WWII, and she later worked for the EF Johnson Co. in Waseca. She began working for the United States Postal Service in 1957, and finished her career employed as the Elysian Post Master from 1972 until 1985. She was very active in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian throughout her life, and had served on the Bethlehem Ladies Aid for many years. She was also involved in Elysian Community Service and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed nature, gardening, traveling, and the company of her dog, Megan. Mildred loved her friends and family and watching her grandchildren grow into young adults. Mildred is survived by one daughter, Ellen (Dennis) Morris of Waterville; two step-children, Wayne (Shirley) Roemhildt of Elysian and Bonne Roemhildt of Stillwater; seven grandchildren, Denise Flicek, Keith, Chad, and Nick Balfe, and Trent, Ryan, and Mark Morris; six step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sandra Balfe; six brothers; and one sister. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 16, 2008 from 3-7 PM at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and will continue on Monday for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian, with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian. |
