Dorothy M. Racek

DOROTHY M. RACEK, age 92 of Waseca died on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on January 25, 1919 in Devils Lake, North Dakota she was the daughter of Otto and Mabel (Anderson) Bartz.  Following Otto’s death Mabel married Edwin Franson.  Although he was not her biological father, Edwin is who Dorothy would call her father.  After moving to Waseca, Dorothy graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1936 and then attended Minneapolis Business College for two years.  On February 14, 1942, Dorothy married Paul Lynch at Fort Dix, New Jersey.  He died during active service to his country.  Dorothy later married Clarence Racek on May 11, 1947 and they were later divorced.   Through the years, Dorothy worked at the Southern Experiment Station, Waseca Delapp & Co., and for several years at E.F. Johnson Company all in Waseca.  Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, music (having played the violin in the high school orchestra), and most of all spending time with her two grandsons.  Her latest joy was her great granddaughter Jaylie.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member of a church circle and had sung in the choir.  She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Our Gang Club.

Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Dianne (Brad) Braun of Waseca; two grandsons, Nick (Steph) Braun and their daughter Jaylie of Elko and Aaron Braun of Dallas, Texas; one nephew, Randy (Cherie) Bartz and their son Matthew of Shakopee; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruby Bartz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Paige Whitney officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
