CHARLES E. PITTMANN, age 91 of Waterville, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Born in Morristown Township on July 23, 1920, Charles was the only son of Stephan and Alma (Kaplan) Pittmann. As a young man he attended Oak Grove country school in Rice County. On August, 8, 1939 Charles was united in marriage to Leona Slechta at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Together they farmed in Morristown on what has become a family Century Farm. They retired from farming and moved into the city of Waterville in 1987. Charles was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and was a parish council member. He was also a 4-H leader and a member of the Farm Bureau. In addition to being an avid reader, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Charles delighted in visiting with his grandchildren, and especially enjoyed sharing stories and reminiscing about the past.
Charles is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Leona of Waterville; five children, Gary (Sandy) Pittmann of Waterville, Karen (Keith) Stangler of Byron, Marcia Osterberg of Minneapolis, Kathleen (Joe) Shikonya of LaCrosse, and Mark (Connie) Pittmann of Morristown; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gladys Ahlman; one foster-sister, Matilda Stangler; and one son-in-law, Ernie Osterberg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
