DONALD E. MILBRATH, age 85 of Elysian died on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.
Born on May 6, 1925 in Janesville, Minnesota he was the son of William and Margaret (Shaughnessy) Milbrath. He attended school in Elysian as well as Waterville High School. Donnie served in the U.S. Army during WWII when he was wounded and honorably discharged on September 3, 1943. Following his rehabilitation, he reenlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge on October 23, 1944. He married Minnie McMurlyn on August 24, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Donnie was a jack-of-all-trades and did various work over the years including construction, working as a steeplejack, oiler, and welder. He also enjoyed taking things apart and rebuilding motors. Most of all he enjoyed helping others. Donnie was especially devoted and committed to being a fireman and served for 36 years with the Elysian Fire Department. He was a member of American Legion Post #311 in Elysian where he had served as Past Commander.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie of Elysian; two daughters, Barbara (Jim) King of Waseca and Peggy (Dan) Weber of Le Center; one son, Michael (Mary) Milbrath of Mankato; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Marsedius Rosseau of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter-Debbie, three brothers-John, Bob and Henry, and one sister-Margaret.
Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 from 4-8 PM and continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian. |
