JOAN MABLE MATZ, age 83 of Waseca died on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.
Born on December 1, 1927 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Otto and Emma (Boetcher) Felske. She attended Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville. Joan married James A. Matz on November 15, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. She worked as a homemaker and took great joy in raising her three daughters. Joan enjoyed needlework and embroidery, visiting with neighbors and keeping up on events by reading the daily news. In her later years she was a sports fan and enjoyed watching golf, NASCAR, and the Minnesota Twins. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, the Cotta Guild and 49ers. She was also president of the Resident Council at Lake Shore Inn.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane (Robert) Blowers of Waseca, Mavis (David) Buker of Little Falls, and Brenda (Kevin) Nommensen of St. James; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. She is also survived by one brother, Edgar (Dorothy) Felske of Janesville; one sister, Aletta Berndt of Elysian; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Giles Zimmer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, one hour before services at the church.
