CAROL V. MAHLER, age 90 of Owatonna, formerly of Waseca, died on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Owatonna Hospital. Born in Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County on January 20, 1921, Carol was the daughter of Milton and Maryjane (Gile) Mahler. Carol attended school in Waseca and graduated from Waseca High School. She then began her career as a grocery store produce manager in Waseca. She continued in this career until her retirement in 1986. She felt a very strong sense of community and was proud to be a lifelong resident of Waseca. Carol loved to travel with friends and family, especially when traveling to her favorite destination - Duluth. She enjoyed history, working crossword puzzles, and watching the Minnesota Vikings and the University of Iowa’s women’s basketball team. She was also recently recognized as the eldest remaining member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she was very active with the Altar Guild and the Ladies’ Circle for many years. Carol took great pride in her home, and had lived under the same roof for 51 years. She was a woman with a great sense of humor, and she will be missed. She is survived by one niece, Nancy Reyant of Owatonna; her dearest friend, Elaine Flathers of Owatonna; four great nieces and nephews, Laura (Brian) Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Scott Reyant of Geneva, Daniel Reyant of Owatonna, and Kim Reyant of Owatonna; five great-great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, LaVerne Dahl; and one niece, Susanne Thale. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue on Thursday for one hour before the service at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca, with Rev. Debra Collum officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to any Alzheimer’s Disease-related group, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, or to a recipient of the donor’s choice.
