Frederick A. "Fred" Labs

FREDERICK A. “FRED” LABS, age 83 of Faribault, formerly of Waseca and Janesville, died on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Faribault Care Center.

Born in LeSueur County on March 15, 1928, Fred was the son of Emil and Ruth (Hagel) Labs.  As a young man he attended North Morristown Parochial School.  On June 3, 1951, Fred married Lorraine M. Lyons at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waterville.  He worked at Brown Printing in Waseca for many years, and later was the co-owner of the Haberdashery Clothing Store in Waseca before accepting a position as the manager and bartender of the Waseca Eagle’s Club.  Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Hardee’s in Waseca and also at Colony Court.  Fred enjoyed traveling, gardening, and going to casinos.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.

Fred is survived by one son, Dan Labs of Waseca and his special friend Sue Kewatt of Kilkenny; three grandchildren, Brian Labs of Waseca, Justin (Amanda) Labs of Tulsa, OK, and Christopher Labs also of Tulsa, OK; one great-grandson, Tucker Labs; four siblings, Selma (Gene) Hendrickson of Owatonna, Bernard (Pat) Labs of Omaha, Ruth Enge of Faribault, and Shirley (LeRoy) Rockman of Faribault; one brother-in-law, Duane Volk of Waterville; four sisters-in-law, Doris Labs of Waterville, Florence Lyons of Lake City, Lorraine (friend Howard) Lyons of Waterville, and Marilyn Lyons of San Diego, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Lorraine; one son, Tom Labs; two brothers, Donald and Martin Labs; one sister, Elizabeth Volk; and three brothers-in-law, Howard, John, and Arvid Lyons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.  Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca is handling arrangements.
