ROBERT W. HILL, age 71 of Elysian, died at his home on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Born in Le Sueur County on September 16, 1939, Robert was the son of Kenneth and Goldie (Abbe) Hill. He attended grade school in Elysian and graduated from Waterville High School in 1957. Following school, he went to work for the railroad. Throughout his life, he also worked in concrete construction for Whitey Hill, was a heavy equipment operator for many years, and finally worked for Southern Minnesota Construction until his retirement in 2003. On January 20, 1995, Robert was married to Jeanne Guentzel in South Dakota. Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, Local 49, and the N.R.A. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and attending auctions and flea markets. More than any of these things, however, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Elysian; three children, Jay (Teresa) Hill of Elysian, Lisa Splett and her fiancée Lance Alm of Sandstone, MN, and Marna (Casey) Schaub of Madison Lake; three step-children, Van (Kim) Guentzel of Burnsville, Lance Guentzel of Le Center, and Nathan (Gail) Guentzel of Burnsville; eight grandchildren; one brother, Wendlin “Whitey” (Jeannie) Hill of Beaver Dam, MN; and two sisters, Rosemary (John) Schmitz of Waterville, and Cynthia (Rouzehk) Birashk of Mukilteo, WA. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one son, Robert John; and one sister, Juanita Geyer. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Rev. David Mumme officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
