ELMER HEBEL, age 101 of Waterville died on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.
Born on September 10, 1910 in Kilkenny, Minnesota he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Poehler) Sr. He attended St. Canice Catholic School in Kilkenny. Elmer married Marian Catherine Maas on November 23, 1935 at St. Jarlath’s Catholic Church in Iosco Township, Waseca County and she preceded him in death in 1978. Elmer lived and farmed in the Kilkenny area until retiring in 1973 and moving to Waterville. He married Edna Slechta on February 12, 1988 at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny and she preceded him in death in 2010. Elmer enjoyed playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville.
He is survived by one brother, Ed Hebel of Kilkenny; one sister, Elizabeth Wesley of Faribault; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three step-children, Mayonne (Tom) Ackman of Rochert, MN, Darwyn (Carole) Slechta of Waterville, and Darryl Slechta of Albert Lea; 11 step-grandchildren; 23 step-great grandchildren; and 4 step-great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one sister-Helen Weber; and one step-daughter, Marian Buchholz.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny. |
