CHARLES P. GIGEAY JR., age 89 of Waseca died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at his home in Waseca.
Born in Waseca, Minnesota on October 17, 1918, he was the son of Charles P. Gigeay Sr. and Mary E. Ubl. He graduated from Waseca Central in 1938. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. While in the Navy, he was stationed in Newfoundland, Saipan, and Okinawa. Charlie married Dorothy Hodgkins on August 6, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. He signed on with the Chicago and Northwestern railroad in 1946 and retired as a conductor in 1978 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the United Trainman's Union and a life member of the VFW Post 1642 in Waseca. Charlie was very proud of starting the Our Gang Club in 1980 at the First National Bank in Waseca where he served as its chairman for 11 years. He and Dorothy were able to travel when he retired. These travels took them to many places but never for too long. He was always happiest in his hometown of Waseca.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Waseca; three daughters, Marianne Adelmann of Eagan, Marjorie (Andrew) Giesen of Sheboygan, WI, and Marcia (Arlie) Schroeder of Mankato; and two granddaughters, Sara (Nick) Willaert and Lisa Schroeder. He is also survived by one brother, James (Sharon) Gigeay of Hampton, VA and special friend Mark (Lynda) Neste of Waseca. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert J. Gigeay.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Waseca Area Foundation.
