JERRY LLOYD ERICKSON, age 57 of Waseca, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home.
Born in Mora, Minnesota on August 24, 1950, Jerry was the son of Lloyd J. and Eleanor A. (Challstrom) Erickson. He grew up on a dairy farm outside of Isle, Minnesota. As a teenager, he attended school in the Isle School District where he was very active in the Opstead Baptist Church, and enjoyed playing drums in his rock band, “The Psychedelics,” and riding around on his motorcycle. Jerry married Rebeckah Carlson in 1969, and their son Joel was later born at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, where Jerry was stationed with the United States Army. After completing a tour of duty as a helicopter mechanic in Korea during the Vietnam War, Jerry returned to Minnesota and worked in a veneer mill. His son Jay was then born in 1978. In 1986, Jerry was married to Elizabeth Linville and adopted her young son, Samuel. After moving to Chaska, Minnesota, Jerry’s daughter Kate was born. From Chaska, Jerry moved to LeSueur to work for ADC Telecommunications. On May 9, 1998, Jerry was married to the love of his life, Lizarie R. Monterona in St. Peter, Minnesota, where they made their home. Jerry and Liza moved to Waseca in 2003, and went to work at Itron. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Jerry loved his friends, and enjoyed watching movies, plastic recycling, country music, and singing karaoke. Jerry and Liza also enjoyed traveling to the Phillipines to visit her family, and the two of them planned to retire there surrounded by Liza’s family, who loved Jerry very much.
Jerry is survived by his wife Liza of Waseca; his children, Joel (JoAnn) Erickson of New Market, Jay Erickson of Isle, Samuel Erickson and his fiancée Abbie Welker of New Prague, and Kate Erickson of New Prague; six grandchildren; one brother, Randy Erickson of St. Joseph; and two sisters, Tammy Mickelson of Malmo, and Connie Tart of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Rebeckah Blegen; one granddaughter, Jasmine Erickson; and one sister-in-law, Connie Erickson.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, with a 7:00 PM parish prayer service, and will continue on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, with Rev. Marty Schaefer officiating. Interment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. |
