Verlene Carol Dennis, 78, of Walker, Minnesota died Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Waseca, Minnesota while visiting family. Verlene was born in rural Newark, Illinois on August 26, 1931 to Alvin and Anna (Olson) Anderson. She attended country school and then high school in Newark, IL, graduating in 1950. Following high school she attended The Lutheran Bible Institute in Chicago from 1950 -1952. Verlene married her high school sweetheart, Robert Dennis, on January 1, 1953 at Helmar Lutheran Church, Helmar, IL. They lived in Melrose Park, Illinois while Bob attended college. From 1956 to 1960 they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and Bob attended Luther Seminary. Following his ordination in 1960 they served Lutheran Parishes in WI, MN, CA, and ND. During her life Verlene had various clerical jobs, and worked several years at the Los Alamitos Library in Los Alamitos, CA. Verlene took her role as a mother, and pastor’s wife very seriously. She was an avid reader, a meticulous housekeeper, and great cook. She was a very happy person, who laughed easily, and often (people knew her by her laugh). She was sustained by her deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and her devotion to her husband, Bob. Verlene is survived by her husband of 57 years, the Rev. Robert “Bob”Dennis, children; Pam (Genaro) Dennis Lara of Encinitas, CA, Craig (Eunice) Dennis of Walker, MN, Tim (Becky) Dennis of Waseca, MN, and Brian (Wanda) Dennis of China Grove, NC, grandchildren; Jesse Dennis, Marcus Dennis, Austin Dennis, Chris Dennis, Erica Dennis, Kjerstin Dennis, Corinne Dennis, Caleigh Dennis, Christina Funderburk, Debra (David)Burch , and Jimmy Spence, Eva (Eddie)Castaneda, and Christina Lara, six great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws; Betty Anderson of Newark, IL and Janet Ness of Yorkville, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Lauren and Delmar Anderson. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker. Visitation will be Thursday evening, March 18, 2010 from 4-8 P.M. at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walker. The Dennis Funeral Homes of Waseca, and Walker handled the funeral arrangements. |
