Irene M. Cummins

 

IRENE M. CUMMINS, age 90 of Waterville, died at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011.

 

Born at her parents’ home in Iosco Township on August 2, 1920, Irene was the daughter of George and Clara (Pfeifer) Faltersack.  She attended District 28 School in Janesville, and later spent one year in the Elysian Public School.  On December 30, 1936, Irene was married to Charles Cummins at the county courthouse in Waseca.  They later divorced.  Throughout most of her life she was a homemaker in addition to working at E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca, Backman’s in Waterville, Ring’s Hatchery in Elysian, and as a machine operator at Johnson Reel in Mankato for 22 years.  She retired in 1983.  Irene liked to play cards and bingo, and loved to travel anywhere.  She was a member of the Waterville VFW Auxiliary, the Elysian American Legion Auxiliary, the Ridge Road Ladies, and was an honorary member of the St. Andrew’s Rosary Society.  She had been a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian for over 60 years.

 

Irene is survived by six children, Patricia Quiram of Elysian, Donald Cummins of Fairfax and his special friend Rose Utz, Fritz (Bonnie) Cummins of Waterville, Buzz Cummins of Waseca and his special friend Eileen Hachfeld, Doris (Alvin) Coon of Elysian, and Jeanne (Steve) Jacobs of Fergus Falls; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Ione Weber of Waterville and Lavonne (Spencer) Schultz of Wisconsin; three sisters-in-law, Bernadine Faltersack of North Mankato, Lucille Faltersack of Elysian, and Marjorie Faltersack of Park Rapids; and one brother-in-law, Joe Kayne of Louisiana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roland, Ralph, and George Jr. Faltersack; two sisters, Martha Peckman and Faye Kayne; two brothers-in-law, Matthew Weber and Arthur Peckman; one son-in-law, Allan Quiram; one great-grandchild, Zachary Cummins; and one special friend, Lester Rients.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM with a rosary service to begin at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville.  Visitation will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

 

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
