Charles H. Churchill

Charles Henry Churchill, age 89 of Waseca, beloved husband and father, passed away in his sleep at Lake Shore Inn on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

He was born June 4, 1920, in Titus, Washington, Iowa, to the late Charles and Ethel May Frank Churchill.  He attended school in Washington County and received his GED from Waseca High School. 

Chuck served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II as a Bomber Mechanics’ Crew Chief and was stationed at Robins Field in Macon, Georgia. He attained the rank of Master Seargeant.  He also served during the Korean conflict on active duty service.  On April 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to Jean Charlotte Wood of Waseca, Minnesota.

Chuck worked for Waseca Gas Company for 14 years as corporate controller after World War II.  He worked for Sprague Meter Co. for 24 years. He also tended his farm and was a successful Watkins dealer.

Chuck was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he helped in the building of the Waseca branch building.  He was a member of Masonic Tuscan Lodge #77 in Waseca, serving as Worshipful Master in 1991-1992.  He was also active in the activities of the Shriners in Minnesota.

Chuck is survived by his wife Jean of Waseca and 4 sons:  Gary, New Richland, MN; Dale, Bloomington, MN; Scott and his wife Dianne, Jordan, MN; and Randy and his wife Camille, Renton, WA; 14 grandchildren: Jason Churchill, Fargo, ND; Joshua Churchill, Millsboro, DE; Kelly Churchill, Eden Prairie, MN; Jeremy Churchill (Robin), Bloomington, MN; Kimberly Jepsen (Kevin), Elk River, MN; Matthew O’Brien, Minneapolis, MN; Sara Sangiovanni (Emilo), Minneapolis, MN; Emily Churchill, Minneapolis, MN;  Melanie  (Matthew) Velasquez,  Tustin, CA; R. Michael (Danielle) Churchill, Cambridge, MA, Aaron (Yuka) Churchill, Federal Way, WA; Allen (Candace) Churchill, Provo, UT; Deverall Churchill, Renton, WA; Marina Churchill, Maple Valley, WA; twelve great-grandchildren;  and one sister, Arlene Kroymann, Cedar Rapids, IA.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle, and three sisters, Ethel May, Myrtle Maxine, and Norma.

Funeral services for Charles Henry Churchill will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waseca Branch (1001 9th St. SE).  Branch President Jim Possin will preside. Burial will be at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Kinder-Dennis Funeral Home (109 3rd St. NE) on Tuesday, May 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church, on Wednesday, from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services. An honor guard will be attending the graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are preferred to the American Cancer Society.  We would like to thank all of the staff of Latham Place and Lake Shore Inn for their help and support for many years.
