Doris C. Born

DORIS C. BORN, age 82 of Waseca reached the end of her life’s journey on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born in Waseca County on April 28, 1927, Doris was the daughter of Theodore and Clara (Roemhildt) Mittelsteadt.  She and her brother Glen lived in rural Janesville and then later moved to the city of Waseca.  Doris graduated from Waseca High School in 1945.  She was employed by National Tea Grocery in Waseca.  On August 24, 1947 Doris married Percy Born at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waseca.  She supported her husband in farming and in the Born Livestock Company throughout their marriage.

Doris was always willing to lend a helping hand and was very devoted to her community.  Over the years her involvements have included the school patrol, the Hospital Auxiliary – as president and vice president, Meals on Wheels, Tele Care, the Neighborhood Service Center Board of Directors, Santa Anonymous, Senior Food/Channel 1, Neighborhood Crime Watch, Minnesota Center for Crime Victim Services and Boy Scout Leader.  Doris was a devoted member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca and was active in numerous church activities.  She was also a member of the Waseca America Legion, VFW, and Eagles Auxiliaries. Doris was the recipient of the Human Rights Award in 2001 in recognition of her volunteer efforts to ensure the human rights of all Waseca citizens.  Later in her life Doris worked at the American Legion and the Eagles Club as a caterer.  She truly enjoyed these years and all the friends she made.

She is survived by one son, Larry (Linda) Born of Waseca; one daughter, Nancy Tollefson of Waseca; four grandchildren, Lisa Born of Waseca, Laura (Ron) Romnes of Owatonna, Jon Hayunga of Las Vegas, NV, and Matt Tollefson of St. Paul; and seven great-grandchildren, John, Tacy, Brody, Tate, Ellie, Ailee, and Levi Romnes, all of Owatonna.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.  Doris loved her family and was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend.  The family would like to express a special thank you to all her extended family, friends and care givers who loved her throughout her lifetime.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca, with Rev. Debra Collum and Rev. Elden Eklund officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Memorials are preferred to Waseca Senior Transportation or Waseca Evangelical United Methodist Church.
