Dennis R. "Denny" Bittrich
DENNIS R. “DENNY” BITTRICH, age 63, died at his home in Waterville on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
Born in Faribault on March 18, 1948, Dennis was the son of Walter and Dorothy (Fessel) Bittrich. He graduated from Waterville High School. Before being drafted into military service, Dennis played for the Minnesota Twins for a far-too-short two days, an experience that he was very proud of. Dennis served his country in Vietnam from 1968 until 1969. Over the years since then, he has worked road construction, for Wright Tree Service, for Excel Energy, and most recently for United Steel Products. He loved being outdoors, and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and harvesting morels and asparagus. He also enjoyed cribbage and having a cold one with his friends. More than anything, however, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Even when his health was failing, the “Hi Pappa” he received from his grandchildren could put a smile on his face. The long Sunday drives he took with them were a highlight in Denny’s life, and were not an experience that will ever be forgotten. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, the fire department in Waterville, the Waterville Sportsman’s Club, the VFW, and the Dark House Association.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Barb of Waterville; three children, Jody Bittrich and Cheryl Bittrich both of Wheatridge, CO, and Kathy (Simon) Krystosek of Northfield, MN; five grandchildren, Miranda, Jaylen, Meghan, Meika, and Julia; and sibings, Robert (Joyce) Bittrich of Le Center, Esther (Gerald) Lamont of Waseca, Harry Bittrich of Waterville, Joe Bittrich of Waterville, Linda Anderson of Waterville, and Debbie (Gayle) Hogan of Waterville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Irene Bittrick and Bernice Ahlman; and one brother, Henry Bittrich.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Rev. David Mumme officiating. Interment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at 10:15 AM on Friday, February 3, 2012.
