Dorothy Atkinson

DOROTHY ANN ATKINSON, age 83 of Waterville died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.

 

Born in Waterville, Iowa on February 27, 1925, she was the daughter of Lincoln and Lulu (Bolsinger) Odell. She graduated from high school in Greeley, Iowa and attended teachers college in Cedar Rapids, IA.   Dorothy married Mahlon Atkinson on July 5, 1947 in Manchester, IA.  Over the years she had worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Delaware County Hospital and E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, sewing, and reading.

 

She is survived by her husband, Mahlon “Lon” Atkinson of Waterville; three children, Betty Koch of Manchester, IA, Carey (Theresa) Atkinson of Manchester, IA, and Jerry (Ronald) McGraw of Waterville; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; four sisters, Florence Logan of Manchester, IA, Norma Sabin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Lou Grandstaff of Waterloo, IA, and Nancy (Earl) Strickler of Greeley, IA.  She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Deanna Odell of Indiana and Louise Schmock of Austin; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Kopecky of Monticello, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Ralph Robbins, one grandson Timothy Patrick McGraw, one sister Ruth Kopecky, two brothers Clayton and Leonard Odell, mother and father-in-law Grace and Harvey Atkinson, and brother-in-law Donald Schmock.  

 

Private funeral services will be held at Waseca Christian Assembly in Waseca with Rev. Brad Wickersheim officiating.  Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa at a later date.
